Product Review

With Christmas approaching it’s time to put in those festive gift requests and hope to receive something motorcycle related and useful rather than a naff jumper that will be swiftly returned a soon as the shops re-open. Here are some ideas we have found useful and don’t cost the earth.
Oxford Map Holder
This is a dead useful bit of cheap and effective kit. Instead of a tankbag, this mapholder is ideal for those journeys where you don’t need to rig up the satnav but just need a map reference for the last bit of the journey. The clear wallet can take an A4 map plus small essentials (Mars Bar) can be squeezed in as well. Available with magnets or suckers for plastic tanks. Pay around £18. Quality!
Oxford Motorcycle Braces
Remember those well fitting leather trousers you bought last year? Did they look great for a few months then started to look a bit...er saggy? Around 15 quid will get you a decent pair of strong elasticated braces that will transform your backside from that wrinkled old biker look to hot tight-leather clad racer. Well, maybe not, but they will keep your trousers up!
Available from Girlsbike2 and The Bikerstore.
Oxford Mini Sprint Tankbag
My new toy, the Oxford Mini Sprint tankbag, is perfect for me with loads of great features that would make it a great christmas present. I am sure many of you have done the same thing, bought a tank bag from the web. It arrives in the post and you think to yourself it’s a bit bigger than you had thought, too heavy or just not right. As regular readers will know I have arthritis in my back and my previous tank bag is great but too heavy to carry around when not on the bike. The Oxford mini is perfect, it is small with only 2L capacity but it has an MP3/mobile headphone port from a pocket that will hold your wallet, keys and anything else. As we are advised by Police riders not to carry phones and keys in the pockets of our jackets whilst riding, the mini can hold them without the bag being in the way. Whilst walking around you can hold it by the handle or shoulder strap, it just holds the necessities, but don’t expect to carry your shopping in it. The magnets that hold it to the tank are really strong andit is supplied with the rain cover incorporating reflective tape. The tankbag is made with the quality Oxford materials so you know it’s tough. Inside the main pocket is enough space to hold a bottle of water, your gloves, neck cover and sun cream, but that would be about it.
As with most of the Oxford range it comes in 3 main colours red, black and blue. I had asked for this for Christmas at an RRP of £34.99 but saw this brand new one on ebay for £22 so couldn't miss a bargain. Now Santa will have to think of something else for me - maybe leathers? Put it on your wish list, most good shops have them in stock now.
I give it ***** five stars.
