MotoGP ex Kawasaki rider John Hopkins has signed to race for the Stiggy Honda in WorldSuperbikes. The 25-year-old, who was left without a ride following Kawasaki’s shock withdrawal from MotoGP, has his first ride for Stiggy Honda, on the CBR1000RR in Valencia on April 5th. His deal with the Stiggy Honda squad is for the remainder of 2009 and he will continue to be sponsored by Monster Energy Drink. John joins Johan Stigefelt’s Stiggy squad, with the already established team consisting of Leon Haslam and Roberto Rolfo. Haslam has already proved in the first two rounds, that the Stiggy bikes have the speed to be up front and challenging for the podium. Hopkins said:“Kawasaki and I worked it out where both parties left the relationship happy, and I am thankful to Kawasaki for letting me ride their bikes and race in their program. I’m excited about racing in the 2009 season.”

The British Motor Cycle Racing Club, known as BMCRC or “Bemsee”, the World’s oldest motorcycle racing club. Founded in 1909, it was originally based at the classic Brooklands circuit near Weybridge in Surrey. The weekend of 18-19 April 2009 corresponds with the very first BMCRC meeting which took place at the Brooklands circuit in Surrey on the 18th April 1909. The Brands Hatch Indy circuit has been booked for the weekend and it’s hoped that many club members will become involved both past and present.
