North Weald Test And Tune

Maitland Racing has been organising drag race events and test and tune sessions at North Weald Airfield, near Harlow, Essex, for many years. The events are always popular with riders of all types of bikes from vintage to the latest sports models.

For 2009, there are three test & tune meetings on the calendar, following the regular format of a two-lane, quarter-mile drag race set-up. Organiser Tony Huck explained: ‘Simply turn up on the day, pay your admission (£10 adult) and track fee (£20) on the gate and follow the marshals’ instructions. You will need basic riding kit and after this, and your bike, has been checked for safety you will be allowed out on the track for as many runs as you wish. Timed runs usually commence at 10 am and finish at 5 pm.’

North Weald is a family-oriented facility; accompanied children under 14 are admitted free. Events attract sideshows, trade stalls and an autojumble. There is a range of catering on site and the admission charge allows access to both track and pit area.

The airfield is just off the A414 Harlow-Chelmsford road, not far from Junction 7 of the M11, and that’s just one junction away from the M25. The airfield will be signposted on the day.

Be warned – these are popular events and it’s best to arrive in good time!
