Well summer's here, kind of! And South East Biker celebrate our coming of age with Issue 21 on the streets. We review the Husqvarna Nuda 900R and take another look at the BMW S1000RR. Spencer Conway provides a fascinating excerpt from his African motorcycle adventures. We spend an enjoyable evening with Sam Manicom and we have a free competition to win a signed set of his books. SEB gets on track at Lydden for the first time this year. We chart the progress of a motorcycle student's racing career and find out what happens to your bike behind the scenes with BLD. Jamie Burroughs competes in the Scottish Six Day trial to raise funds for SERV and we have great contributions from MAG and BEMSEE. Enjoy the sunshine if it ever appears!

Casey Stoner's last season?

Casey Stoner announced that he will be retireing from the sport at the end of this season. The reigning champion spoke to the worlds media about how he felt disillusioned with constant rule changes. Stoner feels weary of criticism that he was a prolific crasher and rumours that the lactose intolerance issue he first suffered in 2009 was grossly overplayed were all contributing reasons for his shock decision, said the Repsol Honda rider.

Stoner confirmed his decision to quit during the pre-event press conference in Le Mans last weekend, an announcement that left rivals Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo stunned and the assembled media shell-shocked. There are so many different views as to why such a young man would now decide to retire but the most important thing that mosy seem to miss is that if a rider really is not enjoying his racing, he should not be racing.  There was speculation that this could just be a ruse to get more money from HRC but MCN hinted that HRC had offered the rider double his salary to stay.

Whatever his reasons it is sad to see such a young talented rider leave the sport, Casey has been riding competitively since he was 14 on foreign shores. Now with his own young family could it be he just needs time away to normal for a while. It must be difficult to be so far away from all your family and not really want to be where you are. Who knows a few years away just might be enough time for him to start to miss the sport enough to come back for another try.
